For decades, owning a detached house was seen as a middle-class ideal in Switzerland.
But with housing shortages growing, attention is turning to the baby boomer generation, many of whom now live alone or as couples in large family homes.
The Federal Office for Housing says around 300,000 single-family homes are under-occupied and often unsuitable for old age.
Authorities are now looking at how to encourage baby boomers to leave their family home into more age-appropriate housing.
A national study will examine how these measures could unlock space through careful densification.
The first results are expected by the end of next year.
