Cantons will be able to call on the army to help with the vaccination drive if necessary.
The Federal Council is allowing the military to assist – as they did last year.
It’s mainly smaller cantons that need the help. Soldiers will be used with logistics, basic care and injections – freeing up medical staff.
Cantons will have to show they have already deployed all their local resources before receiving federal help.
The Federal Council’s decision will be needed to be confirmed by parliament within three weeks.
That’s expected to be rubber stamped.
