It’s been revealed a man who was brutally attacked in Basel over the summer is the Governor of the Bank of France.
A man with a hammer started to strike Francois Villeroy de Galhau in June, close to the HQ of the Bank of International Settlements – of which he is chairman.
The 39-year-old attacker is in custody. Police say he didn’t stop hitting the banker even when he was on the ground.
It’s thought the man had a political motive as it appears he knew exactly who his target was, beyond general knowledge – say the police.
Court has called for a full psychiatric report.
A full trial is due next year.
