Geneva now has the highest unemployment rate in Switzerland, at 5.1%.
New figures from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs put the canton just ahead of Vaud, on 4.8%, with Jura and Neuchâtel close behind.
That is well above the national average of 3%.
In Vaud alone, more than 20,000 people were registered as unemployed last month, an 11% rise on the year.
Economists point to the region's reliance on less stable service-sector jobs, and to early signs that younger graduates are being squeezed by artificial intelligence.
The Lake Geneva job market has been tightening since 2023, as firms slow hiring.
