The bike rental scheme in Geneva is proving to be a spectacular success and there are plans to expand it.
The Danish company which currently runs the scheme, Donkey Republic, has over 1,700 bikes and plans to add enough to make that 2,000 by the end of the year.
Last year there were 39,000 trips on the bikes – half by Geneva residents. Usage has soared by 1000% since the year 2020.
The Geneva scheme may now break out of the canton. There are plans to expand the network to Vaud and neighbouring France.
