Further pressure on Swiss football head

Gianni Infantino

Pressure is mounting on Zurich-based FIFA and its Italo-Swiss president Gianni Infantino after North America's football body demanded a complete overhaul of his presidency.

Concacaf issued a statement on Saturday saying FIFA's leadership no longer places football first.

The intervention follows Infantino's forced withdrawal this weekend of a controversial plan to open international competitions to private investors.

Nyon based UEFA has also broken with him, accusing him of a 'shabby, opaque, behind-the-scenes scheme' and saying he has lost the trust of European football.

With Infantino's mandate ending in under a year, the revolt from two major confederations casts serious doubt on whether Swiss football's most powerful figure can see out his term.
