Football clubs expect punishment

It’s expected the two football clubs involved in the confrontation on Saturday will face severe sanctions.

Over the weekend, supporters of Geneva Servette and Lausanne Sport clashed with police in Lausanne. Rubber bullets and water canon had to be used. 

The Swiss Football Leage has the power to issue a CHF 10,000 fine on each club – but if it’s felt that’s insufficient, it can be escalated. The final decision could lay with the Cantonal Justice Department.  

Vice-President of Lausanne Sport, Vincent Steinmann, says he expects sanctions will come – he says realizes it’s lucky there were no serious injuries.
