Foreign residents across Switzerland are being warned about fake letters claiming they will be expelled from the country.
The letters carry the federal logo and the letterhead of the State Secretariat for Migration, telling recipients their residence permit will be revoked by the end of the year.
The secretariat says they are fraudulent, citing the current "No Swiss at 10 million" immigration initiative to appear topical.
At least 1,500 such letters have circulated over the past four years, with a fresh wave reported now. Officials stress the letters have no effect on anyone's residence status, and urge recipients to file a criminal complaint.
