Starbucks has banned electric scooters from all its Swiss branches, and Coop and Migros have followed suit
The chains cite fire risk from lithium batteries and the danger of blocked exits, especially in busy or cramped premises.
The move comes as e-scooter numbers keep climbing across Swiss cities.
Zurich alone has around 5,000 rental scooters on the streets, on top of privately owned models. E-scooters are now Germany's most dangerous mode of transport, with a serious-injury rate roughly 40 times that of cars.
