It’s suspected asbestos dust killed 2,000 insects at a vivarium in canton Neuchatel.
Renovation work released a large cloud of dust and tests later confirmed it contained asbestos.
Several people and reptiles were exposed - and the insects died.
It’s thought the dust blocked their breathing system.
The shelter’s director says the animals had to be cleaned and the site fully decontaminated.
