The foundation set up to help victims of the Crans-Montana fire has lost four of its nine board members in less than two months.
The delegates representing Italian, Swiss and French victim families have all resigned between late June and mid-August. Foundation director Christian Cardon insists the departures were not simultaneous, and says the Italian delegate — Lombardy's regional health minister Guido Bertolasso — left because of an overloaded schedule, not any disagreement.
Former Italian ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado has taken his place. Chaired by former Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard, the Beloved Foundation holds around CHF 24 million in pledged donations and became operational just seven weeks ago. Cardon says the priority remains unchanged — supporting the 41 dead, 115 injured, and the emergency workers involved.
