The security officer for Chermignon has told Valais prosecutors that no proper inspection of the Constellation bar ever took place before it opened in December 2015
He signed off the safety paperwork from the plans alone, without visiting the site.
His single check two months later never reached the basement, where the flammable acoustic foam that killed 41 people was installed.
The rear door listed as an emergency exit was in fact non-compliant, and on the night of the January fire it was locked, trapping many of the victims.
It’s reported that two follow-up checks in 2018 and 2019 also missed the dangers.
