The City of Geneva is offering the Red Cross a grant of CHF 4m to support the organisation’s international relief efforts.
The money still needs to be approved by the Municipal Council.
The City says the grant shows the confidence placed on the Red Cross and reflects the position of Geneva as a humanitarian city.
The organisation has announced a series of cuts as it needs to save CHF 430m. 1,500 jobs will go globally before the end of next year – 300 of them at the Geneva headquarters.
