A major development has been given the green light in Carouge – 400 new apartments and a major student accommodation block will be built.
After ten years of planning, the “Parc des Chênes” project has cleared its last legal hurdles, with construction due to start by June.
The project includes a major new Migros supermarket – in an area lacking food shops at the moment.
The city will also invest CHF 24m in a new sports hall.
While residents welcome the new amenities, some regret the loss of one of the area’s last green spaces.
