Biden arrives in Geneva

Geneva will spend today in another type of lockdown. Security is tight ahead of the meeting between the US and the Russian presidents.

Joe Biden is already in town – he spent the night at the Hotel Intercontinental – Vladimir Putin is due to arrive early this afternoon.

The US president was welcomed yesterday at Geneva Airport with full honours – greeted by the Swiss president Guy Parmelin and other national and cantonal leaders.

It’s been noted that Biden was not wearing a mask – in the United States mask wearing requirements have been lifted for those who have been vaccinated.

The 35-vehicle presidential motorcade then whisked him to the hotel along roads that had been closed beforehand.

Putin has declined any formal welcoming ceremony when he arrives later today.
