Despite efforts to eradicate the pest – the Asian hornet is still spreading in Switzerland.
It’s now been spotted in central parts of the country, such as Lucerne and Zug.
It arrived from China in 2002 and has quicky established itself. It threatens honey bees and other pollinators – which then can hit the abundance of certain flowers.
While climate change and warmer summers will be helping - experts say it’s also adapting to the cooler weather.
There are coordinated efforts to eradicate the hornet – normally by tracking down and destroying the nest.
