An excellently executed April Fools joke this year came from the Ville de Geneve, suggesting that they were continuing their policy of developing sport in public spaces by turning the Reformers Wall in the Parc des Bastions into a climbing wall.
The prank facebook post was accompanied by a link to a full press release, suggesting they would dedicate CHF 150’000 to the project, with 4 climbing routes up the statues of Calvin and other reformers, with differing levels of difficulty.
The press release also suggested that the Geneva mayor Marie Barbey-Chapuis supported the project as it was likely to be a hit for tourists taking selfies from different angles.
Facebook comments were a mix of horrified and delighted, with many realising it was the 1 April, or “poisson d’avril”.
One inspired comment suggested that surfing on the Jet d’Eau should be next.
