At the end of this month, GAOS Youth will present Chaplin: The Musical, a funny, moving and unforgettable production that follows the extraordinary life of Charlie Chaplin - from his humble beginnings in Victorian London to becoming one of the most iconic entertainers in history.
Katt Cullen spoke to director Arthur Mitchell and lead actor Sam Fiore, who takes on the challenging role of Chaplin himself. They discuss the GAOS Youth group, how Sam learned to capture Chaplin's distinctive movements and mannerisms (not for the first time!), and how the production came to GAOS.
The musical has a special local connection. Chaplin spent the final 25 years of his life in Switzerland, and the show explores not only his rise to fame, but also his personal life, outspoken political views, exile from the United States, and the legacy he left behind.
