UK Covid variant already in country before borders closed
Despite the Swiss government banning arrivals from the United Kingdom on December 21st in an effort to prevent the spread of a new highly contagious Covid variant, it seems it was already in the country anyway.
Examination of sewage waste shows the virus was probably fairly widespread before that date.
Researchers at the EPFL in Lausanne found traces of the new variant at ski resorts. It’s known there were a high number of British tourists in Wengen and Verbier before Christmas.
There have been 88 cases of people carrying the new variant in Switzerland.
