Government lays out vaccine plan
The government yesterday laid out its plans on how the population will be vaccinated – and the army will play a central role.
At a press conference in Bern – the different roles of various departments were laid out. The army will store and distribute the vaccine, the cantons will set up vaccination centres – plans for which have been ongoing since the summer – but now are being stepped up, and it’s hoped the first will be operating at the beginning of the year.
The first people to be vaccinated will be those at risk – the elderly and health workers mainly.
The plan is by April, anyone who wants to get vaccinated will be able to get one.
The head of the Federal Commission for Vaccination says there’s still uncertainty over how long the jab can protect people. So, the aim is not herd immunity – but protection.
