Switzerland may have to wait for Covid vaccine
We may have to wait until after the New Year before a vaccine becomes available in Switzerland – and then older and more at-risk individuals may not be included in the first people to get the jab.
In an interview with the Blick newspaper, the regulator Swissmedic says it has to give the go ahead and it’s not lowering its standards for speed – unlike some other countries.
It also says it expects the manufacturers to favour bigger markets for the drug before Switzerland.
It points out many of the trials have been carried out on younger adults – so they’re likely to get the jab first. There needs to be more analysis of the potential side-effects on older people before it can be widely given to the over 60s.
