Friends and family main cause of transmission in Geneva

National News // Oct. 9, 2020

Geneva is currently the worst hit canton with climbing infection rates and the cantonal doctor says she’s concerned.

Aglaé Tardin says she’s worried about the next few weeks. But she says nightclubs and bars are not the real problem as there are protection plans in place and customers can be traced if necessary.

The main issue is transmission between friends and family.

Tardin says the canton wants to avoid a second lockdown – but can’t promise it won’t be necessary.

Meanwhile, Geneva’s night clubs are to get financial help. The cantonal parliament has released CHF 7m for the sector. It’s thought the average payout will be between 50 and 70,000 francs for each establishment. In return, the clubs have to promise not to lay off staff.
