Police clear Bern square of protestors
Bern police have been clearing the square outside the Federal Palace overnight. It’s been occupied by climate protestors since Monday.
Many chained themselves to barriers and firefighters used bolt cutters to free them and then were carried off by the police individually.
Some decided to leave voluntarily at the show of force - which included water cannon – but it remained unused.
Those that stayed sang protest songs and played the hit single ‘The Final Countdown’.
But true to their ideals – many cleared up as they left, dutifully separating the rubbish for recycling.
