Government restrains from 'red listing' France despite meeting criteria
The Federal Council met yesterday and discussed the situation in France. If the government followed its own rules, France should be placed on the ‘red list’ and any travellers would have to quarantine on their return.
But the fact France is a bordering country, thousands of workers in Switzerland live in France, and families straddle the border is giving the government pause for thought.
The idea of dividing France into regions based on risk factors as has been rejected as it’s thought it’s too difficult to control - and then what happens if a bordering area has a high infection rate.
If any restrictions are brought in – there will be exemptions for border workers, families and couples.
The Minister of Justice, Karin Keller-Sutter says a border closure on the same level as during the lockdown is unthinkable.
