New shopping centre in France suspected to be built as revenge
Are plans for a new shopping centre in France, close to the Swiss border, revenge for the Swiss failure not to fund a tram extension to Saint Genis?
That’s a theory following a meeting of the Geneva Community of Municipalities.
Local Swiss traders are concerned about the loss of trade if the project goes ahead.
There are also environmental concerns. The new complex will be built on a wetland which feeds the water table and the Allondon river. Environmentalists say the river could dry up.
The new shopping centre will have 50,000 square meters of retail space and 2,000 parking spots.
