Government criticised for lack of control over infection spread

National News // Aug. 5, 2020

The Swiss Office for Federal Health is being criticised for not having a handle on the source of new coronavirus infections.

With case numbers rising, the health ministry was forced to apologise yesterday after it had mistakenly claimed last week that nightlife establishments are the main cause of infection.

Over the weekend that was clarified as being incorrect - instead the virus spreads the most within families.

But The Blick Newspaper points out this morning that the figures also reveal the government doesn’t know the source at all in 40% of cases.

The paper says the infection rate is likely to rise with the return of people to work and kids to schools - and that contact tracing can only work with information shared nationally and accurately.
