The city is now considered a ‘high-risk’ area with more than 100 new cases per 100,000 residents in the city over the past 14 days.
Belgium has banned travel to and from Geneva, although it has lifted restrictions on Vaud and Valais over the past 24hrs.
Experts say the canton’s proximity to France and its international airport leaves the area exposed to possible higher infection rates.
Switzerland counted 130 new cases of coronavirus yesterday, according to figures from the Federal Office of Public Health.
One new death has been recorded, with 6 people hospitalised with the disease.
