Infection rate continues to climb as cantons strengthen pandemic rules
The case of the Rooftop bar highlights a wider trend in Geneva: the canton is seeing a surge in Covid-19 cases.
Over the past week, there have been 235 positive tests. The Cantonal Department of Health says the numbers have been climbing for about a month.
The increase can be linked to the reopening of the economy, people arriving back from abroad and some clusters linked to nightclubs and parties, according to the health department.
The rise prompted the canton to strengthen the rules. Staff in shops, bars and restaurants must all wear masks and nightclubs have to keep a list of customers.
