Nurses outraged at being 'thanked' with ballpoint pen
Nurses at Bern’s main hospital, the Inselspital, are outraged by a ballpoint pen as a gift.
Hospital managers sent more than 4,000 pens to thank staff for their commitment.
Although we’re in the middle of a pandemic, the gift is not connected – it’s to mark the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
Several nurses see the gift as a slight insult and are saying so on social media.
Some have started a group with the aim to send all the pens back, with a message saying they would prefer more pay, more staff and fairer hours. And not a pen which costs 15 francs.
