Lucerne school students angry at new face mask rules
School students in canton Lucerne are angry they will have to pay for their own facemasks when schools resume – but the teachers will get theirs for free.
Lucerne is the first canton to announce mask wearing will be compulsory from next term.
While the students are broadly supportive, they feel the rules are inconsistent as it applies only to classes and not extra-curricular activities, such as school clubs.
The Lucerne Department for Education says masks are considered as school material, so teachers are issued them, but students have to pay themselves.
