Senior doctor warns face shields do not protect wearer, masks do
A senior doctor is warning face shields offer no protection against the coronavirus – and people should wear masks. That’s according to Marina Jamnicki, Graubünden’s cantonal doctor.
Face shields have been gaining popularity as they’re easier to wear.
Even makers of the shields are cautious. The head of a face shield company in Solothurn, Marcel Arni, told the Blick newspaper shields should be used together with masks.
It’s the combination – shields do prevent droplets from landing on the face – but not from being inhaled.
