Covid-19 regulations left up to cantons as daily infection rate doubles
The health minister, Alain Berset, says its now up to the cantons to bring in regulations to stop the spread of the coronavirus, saying the Confederation has done its job.
Over the past week, the daily infection rate has doubled from around 30 to 60 now. The increase is not down to more testing, which has been stable for the last couple of months at around 10,000 a day.
Berset says its now the job of the cantons to force mask-wearing or close businesses.
He says more people need to download the contact tracing app – so far 855,000 have done so. That’s a good start, but the number needs to increase further, he says.
