MP demands ban on homosexual conversion therapy
A member of parliament has written to the Federal Council demanding a legal ban on homosexual conversion therapies.
Socialist Party MP, Angelo Barrile, says a recent decision by the German government which outlaws such therapies raises concerns Switzerland could become a refuge for groups which claim they can ‘cure’ homosexuality.
The German health minister, defending their new laws, says ‘homosexuality is not a disease’.
Barrile says one group from Germany has already moved to Switzerland to continue its activities.
He says young people are particularly vulnerable and such so-called treatment can cause psychological damage and depression.
