Accidents caused by drivers underestimating speed of e-bikes
Electric bike users are being warned that drivers often fail to appreciate how fast they’re going.
This is the result of a survey by the Federal Accident Prevention Office.
Last year 355 people were seriously injured and 11 died following e-bike accidents.
Police reports suggest the rider was responsible in only a third of the crashes.
The accident office says one of the main reasons for a collision is down to drivers underestimating the speed of the bike rider.
The recommendation is that riders wear high visibility vests, use a helmet and be more aware of braking distances.
