New traffic radar tracking noise being tested in Geneva
A new type of traffic radar is being tested in Geneva – instead of speeding, this tracks noise.
Many residents have been complaining of cars and bikes accelerating hard and causing a disturbance. The device is able to differentiate between cars, bikes and trucks.
If the machine detects a loud noise, a red sign lights up warning the driver – if the sound is below 84db, the sign says ‘thanks.’
So far, no fines will be issued as there’s no law suitable for the machine. Police can issue fines for excessive noise.
If the test is successful, it could be extended elsewhere.
