Police recruitment video hastily edits out scene showing officer kneeling on actor's neck

National News // June 10, 2020

Lucerne police have had to hastily re-edit a recruitment video after a scene of two officers arresting a man seemingly echoed the detention of George Floyd in the United States.

Floyd died in Minneapolis after an officer kneeled on his neck for several minutes.

The clearly staged scene with an actor – who is white – showed a female officer with her knee across the man’s neck and shoulder while he was being handcuffed.

Lucerne police say the technique is safe and the video is designed to show what recruits would be taught.

But the force is apologizing for any offence and points out the social media campaign was launched before Floyd’s death.
