Thousands queue each week for bag of food in Geneva
It has become somewhat routine: every Saturday a few thousand people queue for a bag of free food and other essentials outside the Vernets ice rink in Geneva.
Many are undocumented workers and are struggling as they have lost their job due to the lockdown.
The canton is due to take over from this week. Deputies have voted to give CHF 5m to fund the food drive until the end of the year.
Up until last week, the food and essentials had been donated. But the organizers, Solidarity Caravan, pushed for the canton to take over as the demand was showing no sign of slowing.
