Holiday traffic shows jams in tourist hotspots, mask wearing down
Although holiday traffic was below what would normally be expected during the Pentecost long weekend – thousands decided to head to the mountains and the lakes.
Traffic jams formed in the traditional hotspots, such as the Bernese Oberland, the Valais and Graubünden.
Trains and buses were also busy, and very few used masks. A spokesman for the Postbus network estimated only 5% did.
But in the cities, people took to the lakesides and promenades. On the whole, they adhered to the distance rules. Zurich police say there was good compliance.
Everyone seemed to stay in the country. Despite more cars on the roads, the customs office says border crossings were down 70% on average.
