Major studies shows Swiss youth at top of cannabis consumption in Europe
A major study shows Swiss young people are at the top of cannabis consumption in Europe. The numbers show that 13% of male 15-year olds and 8% of females use the drug.
That’s at the top of the table, but Switzerland is joined by Italy, Germany and France that have similar numbers.
Interestingly, exactly the same proportion of 15-year-olds also report having been drunk within the month of the survey. But other countries report higher alcohol use, with Austria, France and Germany beating Switzerland.
Traditional cigarettes are a bit more popular – 16% of males and 14% of females say they’ve smoked within the month.
The study, conducted by HSBC with the WHO was mainly in Europe. The only North American country reporting is Canada – although cigarette use is very low, it also occupies the top ranks for cannabis use.
