Government plans to strengthen ties with UK after Brexit
The government has agreed to a plan to strengthen ties with the United Kingdom after Brexit.
Following a request from a Neuchatel parliamentarian, Damien Cottier, the government says it will look at a new strategy to deepen the relationship between the two non-EU countries.
Switzerland wants to maintain as many of the current agreements it already has with the UK when the current transition period ends at the end of the year.
The main sectors are trade, financial services and police cooperation.
But the Neuchatel MP says the relationship between the two nations should run deeper.
The Federal Council notes that the UK is still in negotiations with the EU and London’s attention is currently focused elsewhere.
