Cash machines and card readers fail across country
Thousands of cash machines and shop card readers across the country failed yesterday morning. At around 9.30am systems run by the financial network SIX broke down.
Although the system was up and running around 40 minutes later, it added up to 60,000 failed attempts by customers to use their debit card.
SIX says around 30% of transactions were affected.
More people are now using cards since the Covid-19 outbreak to avoid handling cash.
