Thousands flock to shops as country reopens
The shops reopened yesterday and thousands took advantage to get out for the first time in weeks.
Queues formed outside the major chains, such as Ikea, FNAC, C&A and H&M.
In Bern, the Loeb department store limited customer numbers to 1,000 at a time and staff wore facemasks, regularly disinfected surfaces and Plexiglas has been fitted to cash desk counters.
Many stores had social distancing measures in place – such as one-way systems, controls on how many were in the shop at the same time, and hand sanitizer at the door.
On the exclusive shopping street in Zurich, the Bahnhofstrasse, lines formed outside luxury shops such as Louis Vuitton and the jewelers Bucherer. Customers told the local press they wanted to treat themselves after lockdown.
