Infection and unemployment curves both flattening

National News // May 12, 2020

The infection curve is continuing to flatten. 39 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours – Daniel Koch from the Federal Health Office says that’s very good news.

Speaking at yesterday’s press conference in Bern, Koch says the infection rate should stay low despite the reopening of some sections of the economy.

He says he’s not nervous about the unlocking and he’s confident people will abide the rules.

The negative economic effects seem to be flattening as well.

At the same press conference, Boris Zürcher from the State Secretariat of Economic Affairs says unemployment is not rising as fast was it was with around 650 people registering every day.

He says at the peak it was 2,000 a day - younger workers and those in the hospitality industry are the worst hit.
