Swiss urged to take summer vacation in Switzerland
With international travel so uncertain this summer, we’re all being urged to take our vacations in Switzerland.
The Swiss Tourist Office believes this year will be the worst in its history as foreign holidaymakers stay away. Its director Martin Nydegger says they’re anticipating a loss of nearly CHF 9bn.
The government says we should help by staying local. Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer urges us to spend our money here and the president, Simonetta Sommaruga says we can all have a good summer break in Switzerland.
Cantons are also launching campaigns to persuade us to take a break with them. The head of the Valais promotion office, Damian Constantin says the aim is to anchor Valais in the minds of Swiss residents as they think of summer.
