Small village on Geneva border petitions against return of traffic
Residents of the small Geneva border village of Soral have signed a petition calling for the border to be closed at certain times of the day to cut traffic.
The road into France was closed for several weeks as part of the lockdown and locals say the life of the village was greatly improved.
They say the air was cleaner, social life was better and stress reduced.
There have already been ideas on how to cut the number of cars – but none have been successful.
Around 12,000 vehicles a day use the crossing.
Over half the residents have signed a petition and sent it to the cantonal authorities asking for the border to be closed at rush hours and to build a bypass into France.
