Cross-border couple's picnic interrupted by police helicopter
A couple who were having a picnic in a forest near the German border had their quiet time rudely interrupted when customs officers landed in a helicopter to check their papers.
The couple – one German national and the other Swiss – decided to meet close to the border as meeting at the moment is difficult due to the lockdown.
The customs office told the press the helicopter decided to land after they spotted the two cars parked in the forest.
Social media commentators questioned the cost of the landing – but customs officers say helicopters are used to control the border. They point out it was only a few days ago they foiled an operation to hand-over drugs.
After a document check, the couple were left to enjoy their time together.
