Vaud town looking to change name back to simply Crans
The town of Crans-près-Céligny in canton Vaud wants to change its name back to simply Crans.
The extra bit was tagged on in 1935 in an effort to avoid confusion with the Valais ski station – Crans.
But that town has now merged with Montana to create Crans-Montana.
But the ‘près-Cèligny’ bit adds to confusion with the neighboring commune of Céligny, which is actually a canton Geneva enclave – or a Vaud exclave, depending on where you’re standing.
The final decision is now with the Vaud cantonal parliament. We’re sure they’re looking forward to that debate.
