The staff at the prestigious Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, in canton St. Gallen, have been told to stay at home for the next two weeks.

The hotel management says a guest who stayed last weekend has tested positive for the virus. He had arrived from Milan. Last week Milan was not considered a high-risk area. The hotel says it no longer accepts guests who have recently visited an infected area.

Meanwhile the cantons are choosing to enforce the federal ban on gatherings of no more than 1,000 people in different ways.

Several cantons, such as Zurich and Valais, are not enforcing stricter rules than the 1,000 person limit. The Zurich Opera is getting around the ban by just selling 900 seats per show.

But canton Bern says any large grouping has to prove that no one has visited an infected area in the past 14 days and organisers have to know the names of everyone attending.

The ban is also affecting large concerts – such as Santana. That show won’t happen, but it's unsure if fans will get their money back.
