More than half of cocaine smugglers on flight from Sao Paulo to Zurich
Figures from the Federal Customs Office show more cocaine is being seized at Zurich airport than ever before.
And one particular flight is the most problematic.
Last year the drug was stopped three times more than in 2018.
Most of the smugglers are caught on the daily Swiss flight LX93 from Sao Paulo in Brazil.
The figures show more than half of all cocaine smugglers arrested are on that flight.
Every month Zurich cantonal police deal with several kilos of cocaine. Only last week one 22-year-old woman was caught with more than a kilo.
Methods are also becoming more inventive. While false bottomed suitcases remain common, many swallow the drugs in condoms, have it tied to their body and even have the drug soaked in clothes.
