Warm winter boosts survival rate for rats
The warm winter is proving to be a boon for rats.
Last week a video spread on social media showing rats in a Swiss supermarket eating tubes of mayonnaise.
Exterminators say the warm weather means elderly or sick rats survive and boosts reproduction.
Lower water levels in sewers also mean they have more space.
Switzerland bans many common types of rat poison used elsewhere in Europe – even so, they are becoming immune. Thousands of traps are being set instead.
